Wheatley Hills 34, Keighley 23
Keighley were dumped out of the Yorkshire Shield at the first hurdle by a lively Wheatley Hills yesterday.
The visitors’ under-strength side lagged behind after an early penalty goal by home fly half Dan Storey and a converted try by wingman Jamie Webb.
They did, however, pull back to tie the scores with a penalty goal by Alex Brown and a converted try by centre Matt Langstaff before the hosts stretched the lead at half-time to 24-10 with tries by centre Mike Hayward and wingman Kieran Grundy and two conversions by Storey.
Keighley had the better of the second half, adding two penalty goals and a conversion by Brown, following a second try by Langstaff, but Wheatley Hills always seemed to have a little in reserve and added a converted try by Grundy and a penalty goal by Storey.
