A mother-of-three is appealing for people to come forward with information after her “precious” family dog was stolen.

Christine Blackwell, who lives on a farm in Oxenhope, said the four-year-old border collie named Cassy meant everything to the family and she was desperate for her to be returned.

Mrs Blackwell believes her dog was stolen “in spite” after thieves failed in an attempt to steal diesel from her outhouse last Friday, between 1.30-3pm.

She said an ominous set of dog prints leading up to tyre tracks in mud were the only clues as to what might have happened to Cassy.

Mrs Blackwell said: “We have had diesel stolen before in August and they must have tried to come back but the tank was locked so they couldn’t get in.

“There are two sets of footprints leading up to tyre tracks where they must have parked the car and a set of dog prints leading up to it.

“Diesel theft is really rife in the rural areas around here, ask anyone it is very well known, and when they couldn’t get any they must have decided to take Cassy instead.

“The kids are devastated, I have three teenagers and I cannot put it into words what Cassy means to us. She is a brilliant worker, she can do tricks and has a lovely character,” she added.

The border collie, pictured, is black, white and tan, wears a blue collar and has part of her tail missing. Mrs Blackwell would like anyone with information to contact police or phone her on 01535 642272.

She said a reward would be given for Cassy’s safe return.

Insp Andy Longden, of the Bingley neighbourhood police team, said they were investigating the dog theft.

He said: “A silver estate car was spotted acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the offence and we would ask anyone who saw this car to contact us or has information to contact us.

“Regarding diesel theft, there have been some incidents over the past few months and we would also appeal for anyone who has information or who has seen suspicious activity around haulage yards or farms to contact the Bingley neighbourhood police team on 01274 475331.”
