Shimla Spice — which has just celebrated its tenth anniversary — has revealed ambitious expansion plans.

Eighteen-year-old Faisal Hussain — who manages the restaurant in South Street, Keighley — said the family business planned to establish branches in cities across the country over the next ten years.

He said: “We won the Keighley News Restaurant of the Year Award in 2008 and our Shipley branch won the Bradford Lord Mayor’s Curry Club award.

“But not only that, it was our ten-year anniversary and to celebrate we offered over 400 families who have showed us loyalty and support over this time VIP status and cooked them a free meal.

“We didn’t have a party because there was just too many people to invite, we wouldn’t have had room, but instead we cooked people special meals like a leg of lamb that was not on the menu.

“We had record-breaking takings despite the credit crunch and I can see us improving on our success this year.”

Mr Hussain puts the restaurant’s success down to offering a “bring your own” policy on alcohol.

He added: “In 2009 we are looking to complete the refurbishment of Shimla, in Keighley, to be able to seat an extra 30 people and we will continue to plan a branch in Leeds, which we hope to be a £1-1.5 million project.”

Mr Hussain also plans to work with more schools in Keighley this year, organising trips around the restaurant kitchen and cookery lessons for pupils.
