Six young members of a Keighley athletics academy were presented to councillors at the start of the meeting.
They were introduced by Barry Thorne, of Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure.
He said some of the group’s members had recently competed in York, where they picked up six gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
The athletes train at Greenhead School and are backed by the town council, which voted to sponsor the academy last year.
Mr Thorne said the athletes were at the meeting to officially thank the council for its help. He said three of them have qualified to compete in this summer’s Special Olympics, in Leicester.
Addressing the academy members, Cllr Ward said: “I’m delighted that you’ve come and I’m really proud of you — keep it up.”
