Keighley streets cordoned off after stabbings

Eight people were injured when a knife-wielding teenager went on the rampage last night.

At around 10.15pm in Victoria Road, Keighley, a 24-year-old local man received stab wounds. He is in a stable condition in hospital.

And then in a second incident near Wetherspoons in North Street at about 12.30am, a further seven people sustained knife injuries.

Of those, four people - three women aged 44, 26 and 51 and a 30-year-old man - were taken to hospital for treatment. All are believed to be in a stable condition.

A 19-year-old local man, who was detained near Wetherspoons by members of the public, was arrested and is currently being assessed for mental health issues.

North Street is expected to be closed for most of today while police investigations continue.

Detective Supt Steve Payne, of the homicide and major inquiries team, said: "I am appealing for witnesses to these incidents and would ask anyone who has information or may have seen what happened to contact the helpdesk or CID department at Airedale and North Bradford Police on 0845 6060606."
