A blaze ripped through a classroom at a Keighley primary school this morning.
The fire broke out at Holycroft, in Victoria Road, at about 5.30am.
An automatic alarm system alerted the fire service.
Four crews – two from Keighley and one each from Haworth and Bingley – were called to the scene.
Six breathing-apparatus sets were used as firefighters tackled the blaze and a special ventilation fan was brought in to clear smoke from the two-storey building.
Crew manager Stuart Minnikin, from Keighley Fire Station, said: “When we arrived there were no signs of a blaze from the outside but the caretaker let us in and we found smoke in the hall and a fire in one of the classrooms.
“The fire was starting to spread but we had it under control quickly and managed to largely contain it to that one room. We got there just in time.”
The cause of the blaze is under investigation but it is not being treated as suspicious.
