A new footpath to Steeton and Silsden Railway Station could be created as soon as next month.
It was announced at last week’s parish council meeting that the Joint Transport Working Group had secured the last £10,000 needed to provide a footpath on Station Road.
The path would make it easier for residents travelling from Steeton to access the Leeds-bound railway platform.
The group has already raised £40,000 in grants from Bradford Council and the Ward Investment Fund and was waiting to secure the final £10,000 before initiating the project.
The final funds have been obtained from a LEADER grant, which is waiting to be signed off by Yorkshire Forward before the project can get under way.
Parish council chairman and member of the Joint Transport Working Group, Councillor David Mullen, said: “At the moment it is hard for disabled people and pram-pushers to get to the Leeds-bound platform without having to tackle 40 steps or walk down to a roundabout and cross a busy main road.
“We put the bid in early December and by Christmas we had passed all the stages. We have to spend the money before the end of February because it has been given with time constraints. All the funding is there, the plans are drawn, so soon it will begin.”
The Joint Transport Working Group is a voluntary committee set up to improve conditions at Steeton and Silsden Railway Station, in particular looking at disabled access and car park congestion.
