Keighley writer

Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy is writing his first television series.

The Glusburn-born writer is said to be penning Emergency Sex for top US network HBO.

The channel is renowned for series like The Sopranos and Sex and the City.

The project, which also involves Russell Crowe as executive producer, was revealed this week by Hollywood Reporter magazine.

Emergency Sex, like Simon’s multi-award-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, is an adaptation.

It is inspired by the book Emergency Sex and Other Desperate Measures: A True Story From Hell on Earth. Hollywood Reporter says the series will cover the larger-than-life exploits of expatriate workers who find their sanity tested in the face of atrocities, loneliness and primal desires.

The series will star actress Maria Bello.
