Keighley Voluntary Services

Keighley Voluntary Services has adopted a new name and a new constitution.

It will in future be known as Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action. The name takes into account the charity’s takeover of its sister organisation in Ilkley in 2008.

KVS now provides advice and support to groups across the entire Keighley constituency. The new constitution — or memorandum and articles — aims to bring the organisation into the 21st century.

Trustees felt the existing constitution, dating back to the 1970s, was too basic and did not reflect the full range of modern-day KVS activities.

KVS — to be known as KIVCA — now has an annual income of almost £1 million and employs 20 staff.

Offices in Keighley and Bingley dealt with 6,000 inquiries last year and circulated information to 600 groups and organisations.

As well as supporting individual voluntary and community groups and community centres, it plays a major role in decision-making at a district and regional level.

KVS works closely with public bodies such as Bradford Council and the NHS and brings groups together.

It also leads key projects in fields such as funding advice, training, health, racial justice, rural affairs, regeneration and older people’s services.
