New Keighley health centre

A planned new Keighley health centre will provide more than just medical treatment, according to organisers of a consultation exercise.

Last month NHS Bradford and Airedale began encouraging people to react to proposals for a £15 million health, social care and wellbeing facility in Keighley.

The development will either be on the grounds of the existing health centre, in Oakworth Road, or at Bradford Road, between the railway station and Victoria Park roundabout.

A spokesman for NHS Bradford and Airedale said: “People are already sharing their views on the location and the kinds of services they would like to see.

“However, feedback so far has mainly been about the NHS services that people would like provided and not about social care and wellbeing.

“Based at the new Keighley centre, adult social care staff will provide information and advice and people will be able to arrange appointments while visiting for other reasons.

“Staff will be able to discuss a person’s needs and make arrangements to help keep them well, such as rehabilitation after a hospital stay. To help people remain independent, there is provision such as equipment, home care, day care and help with meals.

“To keep people safe, there are services like Careline, and if someone is not getting the care they need, or the wrong sort of care, staff will make sure that people who are vulnerable are properly looked after.”

Dale Smith, Bradford Council’s executive member for adult and community services, said: “It is important that through the consultation the people of Keighley are able to tell us what social care and support is needed to help people keep well, safe and independent.”

More than 16,000 copies of the leaflet “Have your say on services in Keighley and district” have gone out to homes in and around the town so people can have their say on the planned facility.

Those who have not received this document should call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01274 237555 and ask for a copy.

They can also express their views by emailing comments to consultation@bradford.nhs.uk or by attending one of a series of public meetings to discuss the issue.

These will take place on February 24, at 7pm, in the main hall, at the Keighley college building, Cavendish Street, on March 16, at 2pm, in Victoria Hall, Hard Ings Road, and on March 18, at 7pm, at Highfield Community Centre, Drewry Road.

The consultation period ends on March 31.
