Bandstand saved after arson attack

Keighley firefighters saved the Cliffe Castle bandstand after arsonists tried to set it alight.

A member of the public raised the alarm after a burning wheelie bin was rolled into the wooden structure at about 7pm yesterday.

One crew from Keighley Fire Station attended and managed to extinguish the flames before they took hold.

Firefighter Joe O’Keeffe said: “We had to get underneath the bandstand to make sure the fire had not caught on and was going to ignite later.

“Luckily there was no damage to the structure, but it could have been a lot worse.”

Police are investigating.
