A 14-year-old boy was arrested after a stabbing at a Keighley skatepark.

The youngster was held following the incident at the site in Ingrow Lane, next to Oakbank School, on Sunday evening.

He has since been released on police bail, pending further inquiries.

A boy aged 16 was taken to Airedale Hospital with a stab wound to his neck following the incident, at about 8pm. Police said the victim’s injuries were not life threatening.

Yesterday the injured boy’s mum said she wanted to thank, through the Keighley News, a mystery Good Samaritan who helped her son prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

“The lady — who was wearing a nurse’s or carer’s uniform — got out of her car to help him,” she said.

“She left without giving her name. I really appreciate what she did and if she would make herself known to the police I would like to thank her personally.”

The Flaming Wheels skatepark opened last October. The £130,000 project, the culmination of several years’ planning by Oakbank staff and pupils and other local children, was opposed by some residents and councillors. Among the objectors was town councillor Kathrine Roberts, who lives opposite the site.

She went over to the skatepark at about 11pm, on Sunday when she saw lights in use.

“I thought it was young people and was going to ask what they were doing but I discovered it was the police taking photographs,” she said. “When I inquired what had happened they said there had been a stabbing.”

Cllr Roberts said she and fellow residents had feared the site would attract anti-social behaviour.

“I have kept a log of the trouble there and reported problems to the police several times and I’ve also taken a lot of calls from concerned residents,” she said.

“Most of the trouble is with youths who go in there late in the day.”

Fellow town councillor Brian Hudson added: “I am not against skateparks but this site is concealed by trees and a high wall, making it perfect for unscrupulous activities.”
