A charity set up in memory of a 24-year-old Silsden rugby player has already raised more than £1,300 to give people “one less thing to worry about when things get tough”.
The Chris Brown Trust was launched less than a month ago but has already held three fundraising events.
It was set up in memory of Chris Brown, pictured, from Cornwall Avenue in Silsden, who died last September, 11 days after he suffered a brain haemorrhage while playing rugby for Silsden Park Rangers.
A coffee and cake day at Café Cake, in Briggate, Silsden, raised £611 from a bun sale and raffle.
A bucket collection at Cougar Park, when the Cougars played Halifax on Sunday, raised £540 and a presentation night at Silsden Whitestars football club, which Chris supported, collected £230.
Chris’s mum, Linda Brown, said the amount raised in such a short time was “staggering”.
She said: “Silsden Whitestars presented a trophy in the name of Chris Brown at their presentation evening. It was awarded to the person in the club who had shown the most dedication over the season and I and Chris’s youngest brother, Mark, presented it to Johnny Rampling.”
