Redrow Homes plans to build 200 new houses in Steeton.

The company is currently drawing up a planning application with an emphasis on family-living homes to be erected on land off Thornhill Road.

The area is currently designated for redevelopment under Bradford’s Unitary Development Plan.

Skipton Properties was going to build 229 houses on the same site, after a controversial planning application was eventually passed last October, but it now seems Redrow will build on the site instead.

It is still not clear who actually owns the land.

John Grime, regional director for Redrow Homes Yorkshire, said: “At Redrow we are committed to constructing quality homes that people want to live in and to fulfil that commitment we need land to build on.

“The site in Steeton is a welcome addition to our portfolio.”

The homes will be two, three and four-bedroom properties from the company’s New Heritage Collection.

The houses will typically have “traditional exteriors” with modern interiors, dropped eaves, projecting plinths, bays, leaded lights and timber or tiled canopies over doors and windows. Steeton resident Leslie Howard — who lives on Coppy Road, near to Thornhill Road — said: “If a new company is now building on that area then I hope it will not tear down the mature trees like the last company was going to do.

“I also hope they will make two entrances out of it instead of just one leading from Thornhill Road to help ease congestion and look at the overflowing sewage problems in the area before submitting their plans.”

District councillor for the Craven Ward Andrew Mallinson echoed Mr Howard’s preference for two exit sites from the development.

He said: “I have already requested of the planning officers that if there are any major amendments to this site in the application, that the whole public consultation process starts again.

“I also hope the affordable housing is interspersed with the rest of the development and not segregated as it was on the last planning application.”

The Keighley News contacted Skipton Properties for a comment but no one was available.
