A Keighley restaurant which is part of a bid for Bradford to become the nation’s Curry Capital has put together a new menu.
Azeems, in South Street, is offering a signature dish as part of the national contest, which is pitting Keighley and Bradford against 11 other UK cities.
Azeems director Barkat Ali said that for the next few weeks customers would be able to sample a type of dish known as Handi.
“This is exactly the kind of traditional food that Asian people eat themselves at home,” he said.
“It’s medium spicy and there’s a choice of lamb, fish, vegetable or chicken.”
Azeems is just one of four restaurants in Keighley and Bradford district chosen to try and topple Leicester, which is the existing Curry Capital.
The contest began in 1999 and is organised by the Federation of Specialist Restaurants.
Public voting for the different cities taking part has closed, and the winner will be announced on December 8. A panel of 13 judges is assessing the restaurants based on their food, commitment to their local communities and their standards of service and hygiene.
