Heavy snowfall is creating chaos across Keighley today.

Problems on minor roads caused by Monday night’s snow and freezing temperatures have been compounded.

Traffic has built up on main routes and bus services in some outlying areas have been hit.

Train services have also been affected. Northern Rail has closed some routes and is currently operating a reduced service on the Airedale line. It advises passengers to check before travelling by phoning 08457 484950 or visiting nationalrail.co.uk or northernrail.org.

Several schools across the district have closed for the day. They include Crossflatts, Cullingworth, Harden, Holycroft, Ingrow, Keighley St Andrew’s CE, Long Lee and St Anne’s primary schools, Beechcliffe and Phoenix special schools and Holy Family and Parkside secondary schools.

Bradford Council has suspended all bin collections.

John Turner, principal officer waste management, said: “If the weather improves sufficiently in the next few days we plan to work overtime to clear any backlog but if the bad weather continues we would ask residents to be patient.

“Household recycling centres will remain open for residents to deposit rubbish if it becomes safe and convenient for them to transport it.

“We are sorry if bins are left full but the situation is beyond our control. For further information please telephone 01274 431000 or visit Bradford Council’s web site.”

All council museums, libraries and sports facilities have shut for the afternoon.
