Three houses in the Lawkholme area of Keighley had to be evacuated early this morning when smoke from smouldering electrical wiring billowed into the properties.
Fumes filled the cellars of the terrace homes in Lawkholme Lane and then seeped into other parts of the properties.
Firefighters used a dry powder extinguisher to deal with the burning material and then helped ventilate the houses.
Two crews from Keighley fire station were called out at 12.30am to deal with the incident.
Crew commander Kelvin Steele said: “Where the electrics go into one of the properties the insulation was smouldering and it was sending smoke into the basements. We moved the occupants out while we dealt with the situation.”
Engineers from electricity distribution company YEDL also attended.
Firefighters spent about two hours at the scene.
