Keighley school pupils shrugged off wet weather to complete a ten-mile charity walk to sponsor a child in the developing world.
The 14 students from Holy Family Catholic School’s 10P tutor group followed a route alongside the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
They were accompanied by staff and some members of the school’s sixth form.
A spokesman said: “The students remained cheerful all day despite some large blisters. They all soldiered on and even the constant rain wasn’t enough to dampen their spirits.
“The choice by some of cool catwalk clobber for the walk was a permanent source of amusement, as was the use of a golfing umbrella in lieu of a raincoat by one of the students. The umbrella did come in handy in speeding up the slowest walkers at the back ‘cattle prod’ style!”
Tutor Eva Victor said: “I feel extremely proud of my group for appreciating the value of giving up their time for someone less fortunate than themselves and for embracing the idea with such enthusiasm.
“Some students even talked about doing another walk later in the year to raise more money — perhaps when the weather is a little better though.”
