Students curried favour with diners as they raised money for relief work in Pakistan.

Students from University Academy Keighley took part in the annual Balti Challenge at the town’s Balti House restaurant.

The sixth formers prepared food, cleaned the restaurant, performed “front of house” duties and waited on tables.

The challenge was co-ordinated by students Sajjad Ali and Sohail Tariq, with Balti House manager Mohammed Zamir.

The evening raised £730 for the Ibrahim Trust and involved 17 students from the sixth form, which is known as UAK6.

The event was attended by academy staff, students, friends and families, with Sajjad acting as the maitre d.

Academy head boy Ruhel Hussain gave a speech and Mr Zamir spoke of the importance of the fundraising.

He set up the Ibrahim Trust in memory of his son, to provide free medical care and ambulance services for the poor of Jabbar, near Gujar Khan, in Pakistan.

The evening included a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, including Keighley Picture House, Hanover Carpets, Amici’s and Shimla Spice.
