Former workmates of a Keighley woman dying of cancer have made her ‘double-dream’ come true.

Without a public appeal they have raised more than £5,000 to send Kirsty Deakin, husband Steven and daughter Abby to Disneyland Paris.

Kirsty and Steven will take four-year-old Abby to the resort next February thanks to staff at jewellers Herbert Brown.

The trip will also serve as a honeymoon for Kirsty and Steven after they brought forward their wedding on hearing of Kirsty’s illness.

Kirsty, 25, from Long Lee, had originally planned to marry next year and take the family to Disneyland in Florida.

She was diagnosed with cervical cancer last February after suffering two years of abnormal bleeding.

Following treatment at St James’s Hospital in Leeds she was given the all-clear, but soon afterwards discovered the cancer had returned and was terminal.

Kirsty and Steven brought the wedding forward to October 15.

Kirsty said: “I’ve been in and out of hospital since so we couldn’t have a honeymoon straight away.”

The illness forced Kirsty to leave Herbert Brown’s, in East Parade, where she had worked for four years.

Her former workmates – Jo Harper, Tina Halligan, Jane Coates, Runa Ali and Jemma Burdett – embarked on a fundraising drive to cover the costs.

Raffle tickets, with prizes donated by local businesses and Herbert Brown staff around the UK, have been sold over the past few weeks.

The fundraising culminated in a social night at Utley restaurant Roland’s last Saturday with an auction and a live band.

Kirsty said the final total of £5,082 was more than enough to cover the cost of the trip to Disneyland Paris.

She said: “They raised enough for me to let Abby have dinner with the princesses and other extra things. She loves the Disney princesses. We’ve just booked, and will be setting off at the beginning of February. I’ve had authorisation from the consultant to travel.”
