Christmastime kindhearts have clicked to the rescue of two brothers whose video games were stolen by burglars.

Facebook fans in Keighley have donated consoles and games to replace those stolen from Jake and Brad Lee – giving them an early visit from Santa.

Users of the Facebook page ‘for sale/swap in Keighley’ rallied round after hearing about the young boys’ loss.

The page, which has more than 4,400 friends, allows people to advertise unwanted items for sale or donation.

Jake and Brad, aged ten and eight, live in Bracken Bank Avenue with their mother Sarah Binns-Hall.

Sarah woke in the early hours three weeks ago on hearing people leaving her house by the back door.

She said: “I saw them sauntering through the garden. They had probably seen the games machines through the net curtains.”

She said the two burglars took an Xbox 360 and about 30 games, along with Wii games and accessories.

One of Sarah’s friends posted an alert on the Facebook page so people did not buy the stolen property.

Members expressed sympathy and then some began offering items to replace what the boys had lost.

Some of them went round to their house with a holdall containing an Xbox 360 and PS2 along with games.

Sarah, who moved to Keighley two years ago and has no family in the town, described local people’s kindness as “gobsmacking”.

She said: “I was speechless. I don’t even go on Facebook. It’s like an old-fashioned community thing.

“The boys thought it was Christmas coming early.”

Melanie Watson, who is involved in the sale/swap site, said the number of responses escalated as people learned about the boys’ plight.

She said: “Everyone had an input. I felt we had to do something good to rescue such a bad situation.”

Melanie said the site's administrators were careful not to fuel crime, and did not tolerate stolen, counterfeit or pirated goods.

l Anyone with information about the burglary or stolen items is asked to call police on 101.
