Keighley Albion 38 Bilton Sullys 12 Keighley Albion cruised into the last 16 of the Yorkshire Cup after a much improved performance saw them ease past a spirited Bilton side who were only 10-6 down at the break.

Playing at Highfield on Saturday, Albion were in the ascendancy from the start with a well taken try by centre Steve Cullen who took a smart pass from impressive stand off Steven Wrench to score in the corner.

Albion failed with the conversion but scored again three minutes later when Richard Hollins hit the ball at pace and slipped a neat short pass to the supporting Mark Smith who crossed from close range giving winger Harry Burns an easy conversion.

To their credit the Hull side responded with some enterprising play of their own and crossed for a well taken try on 18 minutes.

Albion came out in the second half in determined mood and some good approach play by Wrench resulted in hooker Danny Barratt adding another try with Burns once again tagging on the goal.

An uncharacteristic lapse by the Albion defence led to Bilton scoring a soft try and conversion to bring them within four points of the home side. But for the visitors this was was to be their last meaningful effort of the match as Albion cut loose with some excellent free flowing and supporting rugby.

Albion's superior fitness was a determining factor with Burns adding two more tries. Substitute Andy Bowness tagged on a try of his own. But the best was left until the 78th minute when a break from Albion's own 20 metre line saw the ball pass through several pairs of hands before full back Colin Pickles was on hand to finish with the try of the afternoon to give Keighley a comfortable 38-12 victory.
