A well regarded singer in Ireland, 'Stories from the Steeples' is Mary Blacks first studio album in six years. It's been worth the wait though as she effortlessly moves through a fine collection of contemporary folk and soft Celtic influenced ballads.

In true Folk Music tradition there are a number of excellent collaborations with other Irish singers and arrangers, weaving acoustic guitar, piano and accordion with the traditional Irish sounds of violin and fiddle.

Best track for me is 'The Night Is On Our Side' which amply demonstrates her wide range and “Lighthouse Light”, an excellent foot-tapping harmonious duet with American singer and musician Janis Ian Blacks vocals are clear and pure, and with every fresh listen this album throws up a previously unnoticed nuance, vocals, composition or instrumental, enticing you into the tracks.

In summary, she is a charming and gifted storyteller and the album is a well crafted example of her talents.
