Safety measures have been introduced at a busy road junction.

Double yellow lines are now in place at the junction of Bar Lane and Bradford Road, Riddlesden, where parked cars had been causing problems.

Keighley East district councillor Dorothy Clamp, chairman of Keighley Area Committee, attended a neighbourhood forum at Riddlesden Institute to report on the measures.

She also outlined the installation of new street lighting on a public footpath linking Grange Crescent and Canal Road. “I have been working with Riddlesden and Stockbridge town councillors on these projects for some time,” she said.

“I am delighted we have finally brought them to a successful conclusion.

“The introduction of double yellow lines at Bar Lane will make a potentially dangerous situation much safer now that parked cars can no longer cause obstructions on this busy junction.”

Town councillor Ronald Beale, who has been campaigning for some time to get the parking restrictions introduced, said: “Town and district councillors working together can make a difference. The town council does not have the powers to introduce such measures on its own but by working in co-operation with our district colleagues we can make a positive difference for the benefit of the residents we represent.”

Coun Clamp also heard about residents’ concerns over plans to extend cycle tracks through Elam Wood in Riddlesden and anger was voiced about a lack of consultation.

Photos were shown of damage to the woods.

Coun Clamp said she hoped to help set up a ‘Friends of Elam Wood’ group to give people a direct say in the future management and development of the site.
