Set in 2005, Ladies' Day begins in a fish-packing factory in Margate. The story follows the fortunes of four working class girls; Jan (Carolyn Bell), Pearl (Angela Scott), Shelley (Julia Benfield) and Linda (Denise Abbott).

When Pearl decides to leave her role at the factory, the girls, along with their boss Joe, (Andy Lynch) have the job of finding a suitable leaving do.

Strapped for cash and short of time, it seems they may not be able to have a leaving do after all, until Pearl reveals that there is still one place she always wanted to visit, Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot.

As the story unfolds, we follow the twists and turns of the girls' lives and their witty encounters with six men (each played by the versatile Andy Lynch).

Ladies' Day was wonderfully humorous with a touch of real life scenarios. Great acting throughout with excellent direction from Carolyn Bell who also took on the role of Jan.

The scenery artwork (designed by Andy Tate) showed the progression from the dark factory, onto the excitement of the enclosure of Ascot. Light and sound effects (Rick Dudman and Alan Perrow) really brought the performance to life and during the scene-change the audience sang-along to some Tony Christie classics which made the evening even more enjoyable.

This heartwarming play combines real life elements with humour and fun. Be sure not to miss the Pinnacle Productions' next performance which is said to be coming to audiences in autumn or early next year.
