Badger baiter wins appeal over lifetime animal ban

A man jailed for his involvement in badger baiting has won an appeal to have his lifetime ban from keeping animals reviewed in ten years’ time and not 50.

Anthony Lee, 23, of Coronation Way, Keighley, admitted taking part in an animal fight on May 5, 2010, and causing his dog to fight a badger on June 30 and December 30, 2010.

In May, Bradford and Keighley Magistrates were so horrified by snippets of video found on Lee's phone that they had jailed him for 23 weeks and ruled his lifetime ban could not be reviewed for 50 years.

The images depicted dogs attacking badgers.

However, last Wednesday Lee took his appeal to Bradford Crown Court and had the 50-years wait for a review reduced to ten.

The court heard that in ten years’ time he would be 33, his life may have changed direction and he might want to have a family pet.
