Decision to allow Cowling farm wind turbines condemned

A councillor has condemned a Planning Inspector’s decision to allow an appeal that will see two 50m wind turbines built at a Cowling farm.

The turbines at Hollin Raikes Farm, which falls within the Pendle borough area, had originally been refused by Colne and District Area Committee before the applicant took his application to appeal.

The committee refused the plan on the grounds that the turbines would be prominently visible in the landscape, would have a severe adverse effect on the landscape and would negatively impact the quality of it.

However the planning inspector disagreed.

Coun Paul White (Con) said: “We listened to the concerns of residents, on top of which we live here too. We know the effect they will have. This is exactly what happens when such a major decision like this is left to some faceless bureaucrat who doesn’t live locally.”
