Craven Council cash for communities up for graps

South Craven groups and business associations could get cash aid for projects benefiting communities.

Craven Council has launched a new funding programme, the Localism Reserve, with nearly £96,000 available.

The money is from the New Homes Bonus, a central government payment for every new home or empty property brought back into use.

Grant applications are being invited in two categories – Building a Stronger Economy, for activities and services designed to support new and existing businesses, and Green and Attractive Neighbour-hoods, for projects that improve the appearance and quality of neighbourhoods and public open spaces, environmental schemes, reducing crime or the fear of crime, protecting and promoting biodiversity and providing more activities for younger people.

Councillor Linda Brockbank, Craven Council’s lead member for empowering communities, said: “One of the overriding principles of the Localism Act is about devolving power back to local communities and enabling community development.”
