A BRONTË celebration with a difference comes to the Cobbles and Clay Cafe in Haworth on Saturday, June 18.

South Asian arts organisation Kala Sangam has teamed up with the Brontë Parsonage Museum to create Seasons of Life.

Billed as an East meets West event, the free-admission show will be performed twice for 45 minutes, at 7pm and 8pm.

A spokesman said: “The artists will weave a physical tapestry of movement, music and spoken word in response to the lyrical treasures of the Bronte sisters.

“Through the art of an expressive language of hand gestures, facial expression and physical patterns in space, we will offer a novel inter-cultural performance filled with unique aesthetics from the South Asian tradition of performing arts."

One of the artists, Shrikant Subramaniam, has been teaching and conducting workshops in Bharatanatyam – classical Indian dance – for more than a decade.

He has performed extensively in India, Australia, Hong Kong, United States and Great Britain, and for the past 10 years with leading UK dance companies.

He is the Assistant Artistic Director at Kala Sangam.

Dr Geetha Upadhyaya, Kala Sangam's Artistic Director, has a postgraduate degree in Bharatnatyam, a music career, and a specialism in cross-at collaborations, choreography and music.

Imani Hekima, the pianist, is known for playing Bollywood music at Asian functions around the country, including four Indian singer Raghav.

Admission is free, but people can book by emailing gayathri@kalasangam.org or visiting kalasangam.org/box-office/seasons-life.
