BAD Beyond Expression is the title of a talk at the Brontë Parsonage Museum on Tuesday.

The presentation focuses on the words with which Branwell was dismissed from his two years as tutor at Thorp Green.

The 2pm talk, which is free for visitors to the Haworth museum as part of their entrance fee, will ask exactly what the budding artist had done that was considered so bad.

The accepted story is Branwell had conducted a scandalous affair with the mistress of the house, Lydia Robinson, but the truth is unclear. The talk will look at the evidence for and against the theory and present an alternative idea.

Bad Beyond Expression is one of a series of talks held on the first Tuesday of each month at 2pm. Visit bronte.org.uk/whatson or call 01535 642323 to book tickets.
