KEIGHLEY man Kyle Minnock has designs on the future.

The 22-year-old has won a competition to design a new bar area at the first direct arena in Leeds.

Entrants went before a judging panel and a five-strong shortlist was drawn up.

The finalists were then put to a vote among staff and the public, on social media network Tumblr.

And Mr Minnock topped the poll.

He will now begin a unique work experience, alongside the first direct team, to turn his ideas into reality.

Mr Minnock, who is currently helping at a Leeds-based design studio, said: "Leeds is a lovable city with its vibrant and eclectic music scene.

"When I saw the competition, I just couldn’t resist entering – for the challenge, the city and my career progression.

“It was a huge surprise to win and the feedback from the expert panel has been quite overwhelming.

"It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and my future as an interior architecture graduate.

"I can’t wait to see my ideas transformed into reality."

Tracy Garrad, of first direct, said: “The aim of the competition was to give people the chance to make their artistic mark on Leeds' iconic venue and we’re delighted that the opportunity has gone to someone as passionate about creative design and our city as Kyle."
