THE REOPENING of a Keighley town centre cafe is a dream come true for David Henson.

With Cafe On The Square he believes he has achieved his ambition to bring the Mediterranean to Keighley.

He used an inheritance to refurbish the long-established eaterie, which has gone through several names in the past couple of decades, most recently Little Italy.

David said Cafe On The Square still retained an Italian family feel and was a gentle hub of happy people.

He said he had long had an idea of creating a good, wholesome Italian-feel cafe, and eventually went ahead after his father died last year.

He said: “With strong principles it wasn’t easy and I spent a long time looking for just the right place.”

David said Cafe On The Square included all his ideals: experienced staff, an excellent coffee machine, and a beautiful view of the town hall square.

He said: “It is a snug place to sit with the papers for a while. Cafe on the Square is a bit like the sitcom Cheers where everyone knows your name.”

The cafe, which recently achieved a five-star hygiene rating, is at 14 Cooke Street and opens Mondays to Saturdays from 8am to 5pm.
