BRADFORD'S Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress formally opened a new Keighley business which has taken over a disused pub building.

Councillor Mike Gibbons and Elizabeth Sharp launched Aamir Khan's Cafe, in Bradford Road, earlier this month. (Oct) The business occupies the premises which used to be the Eastwood Tavern.

Other guests at the launch included Keighley town mayor Coun Graham Mitchell, Keighley MP Kris Hopkins, Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate for Keighley John Grogan and local district and town councillors.

Congratulating the family-run business's owner and managers – who include 24-year-old owner Aamir Khan, his brothers Saagar and Moin and their father Yasin – Coun Gibbon said: "This looks like an extremely well-prepared restaurant and I'm sure it's going to do very well.

"You've taken some serious trouble to produce a unit like this. Keighley needs new businesses and we're grateful for what you're doing for the town."

Yasin Khan, director of the cafe, and manager Saad Qureshi, said the enterprise includes a South Asian food restaurant, a fish and chip bar and a dessert bar.

Mr Khan, whose family is from Shipley, said they were keen to offer customers a range of options in one place, adding that the public response since the October 14 launch had been very encouraging.

He said the business employs 20 people.

Keighley Central ward councillor Abid Hussain, who attended the opening, said it was "fantastic" that a family from outside Keighley had chosen to come to the town and invest in it.
