THE CAFE at Keighley’s Central Hall has been awarded a healthy eating gold award.

Cell At Café Central won the accolade from the Good Food Bradford project run by Bradford Council and the NHS.

The project works with local takeaway and hot food outlets to increase the number of healthier menu options available and raise awareness amongst customers about healthy lifestyle choices.

It also helps staff improve their knowledge and standards of catering practice.

Cell at Café Central is run by Keighley-based Confianza, which provides hospitality and catering training to long-term unemployed and teenagers who do not attend school.

Gavin Farrar, from Confianza, said Good Food Bradford had visited the cafe several times to assess the standards put in place, looking at recipes and how to improve the choices on offer.

He said: “It has taught all the staff and students how easy it is to make simple changes to have a healthier diet. We offer a healthier lunch with no chips and no unhealthy fats.”

Daniel Hall of Central Hall, said: “The award is well deserved as the Confianza team had worked tirelessly to introduce healthier options to the café.

“They also have carried over the ethos into the catering offered to conferences and weddings held at Central Hall. “
