A CULLINGWORTH butchers officially has the best bangers in Britain after scooping a national award.

Ellison’s Butchers clinched gold awards for two of its products in the Smithfield Awards and one of the prizes, for traditional pork sausage, was also chosen as the best in its category in the entire competition.

Partner John Ellison said: “It’s really good to receive these awards. It’s great to get the recognition really. It’s quite nice and reassures people that what they buy from us is the best they can get.

“It’s about being consistent. We just have to keep it going now.”

Ellison’s, based in Halifax Road, also received a gold award for its dry cured bacon loin at the ceremony held in London last Thursday (Nov 13).

The annual national competition was judged by independent panels of food and meat industry experts.

The butchers sources all its pork from pig farmer David Mitchell, of Honey Pot Farm in Wilsden, and has won multiple accolades for its sausages.

Its traditional pork sausage is a former Great Yorkshire supreme sausage championship winner.
