AN OXENHOPE brewery is the toast of Doncaster.

India pale ale Easy Tiger!, produced by Bridgehouse Brewery, was a roaring success at Doncaster Beer Festival.

It was voted best strong beer by the town's Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) branch, which organised the event.

The festival featured 120 different ales.

A coach-load of Doncaster CAMRA members has visited the Airedale Heifer pub at Sandbeds, which is owned by Bridgehouse Brewery, to hand over the award.

A certificate was presented to head brewer Ian Cowling.

The visitors, who were joined at the presentation by colleagues from Keighley & Craven CAMRA, each received a bottle of the victorious 6.1 per cent brew.

Simon Lamb, the brewery's sales and marketing director, said: "Awards like this are very important to us as they provide an independent validation on the quality of the beer we are producing.

"The award followed one at Manchester Beer Festival held at the Velodrome, home of the National Cycling Centre, where Bridgehouse Porter 4.5 per cent received the bronze medal out of 300 beers available.

"The plan was that East Tiger! would be a one-off special brew, but given its popularity and the fact it has now won an award we have decided we'll be brewing it again."
