KEIGHLEY’s charity accordion player Derek Steele has been raising money for a disabled Oakworth baby.

Sainsbury’s worker Derek raised £526 from customers of the store by playing his accordion for two days.

The proceeds will be given to Nicole Vendettioli, who was born prematurely almost two years ago and suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Now with cerebral palsy, she has high muscle tone in both legs and her left arm and cannot sit, crawl or walk.

Nicole’s parents Candice and Tom are trying to raise £70,000 to send her to America for surgery which could remove the stiffness in her legs allowing them to work normally.

The donations from Sainsbury’s customers who heard Derek play will go to the fundraising campaign, entitled Nicole’s Wish to Walk.

Earlier this year Peter and Leanne Quinn ran a champagne afternoon tea at their Haworth hotel and restaurant, the Old Registry, to raise money for Nicole’s Wish to Walk.

Members of Trinity Church in Fell Lane, Keighley, have also raised money this year for the campaign.
