A STEETON company has given a massive lift to Manorlands.

Acorn Stairlifts has presented the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice with a cheque for more than £19,000.

The cash was raised through several events last year.

About 100 staff members took part in the Keighley BigK 10K run and walk in March, operations director Nick Wilson tackled the London Marathon the following month and colleagues Furkan Sharif and Georgie Chester joined the hospice’s first Nepal trek in November.

Funds were also raised through dress-down days and a garden party.

Senior Manorlands fundraiser, Andrew Wood, paid tribute to the company’s efforts.

“This is the largest cheque I have ever collected from a single company since I started fundraising for Manorlands eight years ago,” he said.

“The money will make a massive difference to the care Manorlands provides, both at the hospice and in the local area through the community team.”

He added: “In addition to this fantastic financial boost, the company has also helped us throughout the year, providing its excellent services to some of our patients.

“We owe a huge thank-you to the whole team for its support.”

Acorn Stairlifts company secretary, Dave Belmont, said fundraising will continue this year.

“We are hoping 2015 will be even more successful, and we’re already starting to encourage staff to sign up for the Keighley BigK 10K, which this year will be held on March 15,” he added.

Entries for the BigK 10K are now open. The event, in its eighth year, will again start and finish at Victoria Park. The multi-terrain route takes in Keighley’s four main parks.

Participants will each receive a goody bag and T-shirt, and with the event being staged on Mother’s Day, mums will be given a carnation as they cross the line.

Last year’s run and walk attracted a record 1,300 entries and raised more than £60,000 for Manorlands.
