TWO stairlift companies have given a boost to needy patients.

Acorn at Steeton has donated several stairlifts to Marie Curie to enable terminally-ill people to return home from the charity's Bradford hospice.

And Keighley-based A1 Stairlift Services has installed a free machine for a muscular dystrophy sufferer.

Marie Curie said it was hugely grateful to Acorn for its support.

"The stairlifts have made a massive difference to terminally-ill patients and their families locally," said Siobhan Drane, for the charity.

Acorn company secretary Dave Belmont said the firm was delighted to help.

A1 has provided a stairlift for Keighley man Mark Mayman, the first winner in a new year-long campaign launched by the South Street firm to help a deserving person every month.

Director and engineer, Daniel Normington, said: "The majority of our customers come from referrals and as a thanks for that custom we wanted to give something back by launching this campaign.

"We've had an overwhelming response, highlighting that there is real need for help and support when it comes to mobility in the home."

Mr Mayman, who was nominated by his wife Jean, said: "I have health issues and struggled to get up and down the stairs. Now life at home is so much easier."
