TRIBUTE has been paid to a Keighley law firm after a mammoth year of charity fundraising.

Staff at AWB Charlesworth raised nearly £8,500 for the Martin House children's hospice, near Boston Spa.

The cash was coined-in through a wide range of activities staged by workers at the North Street office, together with colleagues at the Skipton and Bradford branches.

This week John Haigh, corporate fundraiser at Martin House, praised the workforce for its backing.

"I would like thank everyone at AWB Charlesworth for supporting us throughout 2015," he said.

"The team has worked really hard to raise a fantastic amount of money by organising a wide variety of events and fundraising activities.

"Staff also joined in with some of the events the hospice organised, supporting us on many different levels, which we really appreciate.

"This money will go a long way to supporting children and young people with life-limiting illnesses – and their families – across the Yorkshire region.

"Our services are provided free of charge, 365 days a year and families can choose to receive our support in their home or at the hospice.

"We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to keep the hospice running, so the support from AWB Charlesworth is very much valued by us all."

The company has supported Martin House for several years and plans to continue raising money.

Events held last year included a bake off, cake sales, a rugby world cup sweepstake, clothes donation days, a tablet auction, Christmas card donations and a festive jumper day.

There was also a dragon-boat race and a golf day, hosted jointly by AWB Charlesworth and accountants Pearson & Associates.

The golf tournament was attended by firms including Barclays, Armstrong Watson and Bluefin Insurance.

The event will be held again, for a third year, in June.

Liam O’Neill, a partner at AWB Charlesworth, said the firm was delighted to be maintaining its support of the hospice.

"If you have either visited Martin House or become aware of the work it does it is difficult not to want to support that wonderful work," he said.

"I'm glad that as a firm we've been able to make a contribution and we'll continue to support the hospice going forward."
