A NEW junior brewer has joined Timothy Taylor in Keighley.

Gordon McCallum described the appointment as "a dream come true".

"When I reached an appropriate age my father introduced me to Taylor's beers as the pinnacle of real ale," he said.

"I have enjoyed drinking them ever since and now count myself lucky to be learning how to brew that unique Taylor's taste."

His recruitment to the five-strong brewing team coincides with the imminent retirement of Peter Eells and promotion to head brewer of Andrew Leman.

Mr McCallum achieved a BEng (Hons) degree in chemical engineering at the University of Strathclyde then continued his studies at Edinburgh Heriot Watt University, with an MSc in brewing and distilling.

All Taylor's brewers are Heriot Watt trained.

Mr Leman is only the fourth head brewer at the company in the past 100 years.
