BUTCHERS are preparing to cross cleavers again in an annual competition.

The Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage & Products contest – which has seen a string of successes from Keighley-district traders over the years – takes place this autumn.

The event, organised by the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils, will again feature black pudding and beefburger classes alongside the flagship pork pie and sausage categories.

And there will be a New Kid on the Block class, for Yorkshire entrants, to encourage newcomers.

Butchers, farm shops and bakers making products on their own premises can enter the competition, being held at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford, on October 30.

"Preparations are progressing for what will be the 28th annual competition," said a spokesman.

"All but one of the classes are open to all-comers from across the UK."
