SOCK it to us!
That’s the message from the Yorkshire Building Society in Keighley, which is seeking donations of new pairs of socks to help the homeless keep warm this winter.
The Socktober appeal is part of the society’s charity partnership with End Youth Homelessness.
People are asked to take their donated items – which can also include woolly hats, gloves, scarves and toiletries – into the Low Street branch.
An estimated 83,000 young people in the UK are homeless.
And latest figures show that 1,907 young people in Bradford district received homelessness support from the local authority in 2015-16.
Chloe Emmerson, the society’s Keighley branch manager, said: “It’s shocking that so many people have nowhere safe to call their home.
“As the weather turns colder, we want to do what we can to help keep them warm.”
