Youngsters at Glusburn Primary School are keeping a close eye on the weather.
The school has become a base for a weather station – operated by mylocalweather.org.uk – which had previously been sited at Carleton.
“The people at Carleton have moved out of the area and an appeal went out for another location,” said the school’s ICT co-ordinator and class seven teacher, Rebbecca Wilcock.
“Our headteacher, Richard Hunt, jumped at the chance as it is a great opportunity for the children.”
The collected data is used throughout the curriculum, from creating graphs in maths to looking at the location of other weather stations in geography.
“My class love finding out what’s happening with the weather,” said Miss Wilcock.
There are even plans for pupils to record their own weather forecasts.
