A SERIES of light-hearted races provided competitive fun at an alternative sports day at Holy Family Catholic School.

And in the spirit of Harry Potter and Hogwarts the Keighley pupils asked for their own school to be split up into rival houses to help spice up the competition.

PE teacher Lucy Redhead responded to the request and the three houses were launched on the day of the contest.

Mrs Redhead explained: “We took the names from the three local Cistercian abbeys – Riveaulx, Jervaulx and Fountains.

"While we have been sorting the details a group of students worked very hard to create banners for each house so that they would be ready for the launch.

"We shall starting logging points gained in the new term with every aspect of school life being able to influence the points awarded to each house.”

During the sports day, students and staff became part of their new houses then enjoyed a variety of humorous races, including bean-bag relays, sack races, and an egg and spoon contest. Fountains house emerged as the overall winner.
