EXLEY HEAD toddlers have made a blooming marvellous contribution to the town centre.

Exley Head Pre-school Group grew flowers and vegetables to help Keighley’s entry in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.

The flowers and vegetables – seen by Bloom judges during a visit last month – are on display in the Airedale shopping centre.

The Pre-schoolers held gardening sessions and grew the blossoms from seed.

The activity impressed Ofsted inspectors, who following a recent visit praised the group’s strong partnerships with other professionals and said this contributed significantly to the children’s good progress.

Keighley gained a Silver Gilt Award Ward in last year’s Yorkshire in Bloom competition, and hopes that this year’s entry will gain it the Gold Award.

The Keighley in Bloom Partnership also forged links with St Anne’s Scout Group, who adopted a stretch of road from Keighley Library to the Cliffe Castle roundabout and cleaned it up every week.

David Petyt, vice-chairman of Keighley in Bloom, thanked community groups and schools who have supported the volunteer committee.

He added: “They have all done really well and we look forward to working with them again in 2015.”

This year’s Yorkshire in Bloom results will be known in September.
