HELP is at hand for youngsters in Silsden to make sure their school play sessions remain stimulating and fun.

Hothfield Junior School has enlisted a group of year six pupils into a new scheme called Hothfield Buddies.

A spokesman for the school explained that Hothfield Junior's playtimes are already positive, safe and happy, and that the scheme is designed to ensure they stay that way.

The team of children involved has been given special training to show them how to teach games to other children, lead games and activities, and help their fellow pupils form good friendships.

They will be available to look out for children feeling lonely, to resolve any problems, and will also promote the school's "golden rules" to guarantee enjoyable break times.

The golden rules, which are displayed in brightly coloured signs in the playground, encourage the children be kind and helpful, speak respectfully to each other and to take good care of their playground and play equipment.

Hothfield Junior School head teacher, James Procter, said: "Our Hothfield Buddies provide wonderful role models to the rest of the school, and help ensure all our children are safe and happy."
