PARKSIDE School students past and present have been successful during the summer.

Year nine student Ellie Bowden won a gold medal in the British National Tae kwon do Championships in Manchester.

This means that Ellie is the UK number one in her age group for the martial art.

Year 10 student Libby Denby represented Yorkshire in cycling during a road race in London.

Former student Helena Blair graduated from Cambridge University with a first-class degree in education.

She will be awarded a college prize and her name will appear on the principal’s list of achievement.

Before the summer holidays dozens of Parkside students went on day trips as rewards for their hard work through the year.

There were trips to Lightwater Valley, Blackpool, the Doe Park Water Activity Centre in Denholme and the Climbing Barn in Crossflatts.

Some students planned and broadcast their own radio show during a day at the Drystone Radio studios.

Shopping vouchers were handed to students who had gained 100 per cent attendance last year, along with the student in each form who had collected the most reward points.

The Reward Zone was launched in October last year with a performance by an up-and-coming band called Only The Young.

The boy-and-go quartet are competing in this year’s X Factor, and recently appeared at one of the judges’ houses.

Parkside School plans a Christmas fair on November 22, from 10.30am to .30pm, with choir performances, arts and crafts, gifts, jewellery, tombola and refreshments, along with a Rodeo Reindeer, Tin Can Alley and Splat The Rat.
