IF YOU GO down to the woods today you’re sure to find Cullingworth children.

Pupils from the village primary school spend every afternoon in nearby woodland.

Forest School practitioner Katie Tidswell leads outdoor activities with different groups of pupils each day.

Activities in a wooded area in the school grounds include foraging, den building, jumping in puddles and creating fairy dells.

Youngsters also create “woodland art” using natural items they can find such as sticks, stones and leaves.

Katie, whose children attend Cullingworth Primary School, works for local Forest School company Get Out More.

She said the school’s head, Kate Sutcliffe, was a great believer in outdoor learning.

Katie said: “It’s really taken off at Cullingworth. These days a lot of children don’t go out to play.”

The aim is for all pupils of Cullingworth Primary School to take part in the Forest School sessions during the current academic year.

Forest Schools, which are becoming increasingly popular, aim to build children’s confidence, respect the environment, and encourage them to take part in physical activities.

Activities can include games, den building, campfires and teamwork exercises.
