PUPILS at Holy Family Catholic School prepared and planted poppies mounted on crosses on the morning of this month's Remembrance Day.

Each tutor group was supplied with the crosses in advance, which they then prepared by adding the names of fallen relatives and friends or writing messages of commitment to future peace.

A spokesman for Holy Family said: "A small gathering of representatives then met in the garden at the front of our school for a short service led by three members staff who for various reasons have personal interests in Remembrance Day.

"The service included the recitation of the Naval Hymn by one of our teachers, Gerard Cahill, who served in the Royal Navy prior to going into teaching.

"All the poppy crosses were placed on the sloping grounds of the school before the group dispersed.

"Later in the day, other pupils and members of staff visited the garden to pay their respects to the fallen."
